A major proportion of construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, unbound paving and fill material consist of aggregate.
In general it is usual to examine aggregate for properties which will include particle size, shape and texture; relative, bulk and compacted densities; soundness and resistance to chemical attack and mechanical properties.
